You should be aware that your current job role is obsolete. You can contribute to the project, you are a passionate software tester, you can make your boss happy, but your current job position is outdated.

The reason is the nature of IT business that is continuously changing. With business, required job positions also change. You must not stick with your current role. If you are exploratory tester (to avoid word manual), be prepared to switch to the business analyst role. Doing exploratory testing, you probably invested a lot of time to figure out business rules.

If you are a developer in the test, be prepared to become an exploratory tester. What about managing roles? What do you know about the test manager role?

This is the only way to avoid panic when the company announces the significant business change.
