TL;DR
Today, during my relaxing walking time, I found a scary message on my iPhone: your phone is disabled, try again in five minutes.
I reached for my phone in pocket to check the time, and I found this none informative message. What happened and what does the message “Your phone is disabled” actually mean? Who disabled the phone and what was the reason? When it was disabled? Just minutes ago I answered a phone call. Obviously, I can not check the Internet for the message meaning. Instead of relaxing, questions were zooming through my head.
This is an excellent example of a wrong user message. I waited for five minutes and successfully entered the phone password phrase and sim card pin. I Googled the message, and this is the answer. I entered the wrong password phrase too many times. Three problems:
- I did not do it on purpose
- I did not know that I was typing a password phrase
- Why the message does not describe what is the actual problem: “You entered the wrong password phrase three times. Wait for five minutes and TRY AGAIN.”
How is it possible to enter the wrong password phrase three times without knowing it? My phone was in the pocket, and I locked it. I know for sure that I pressed the lock button. Obviously not strong enough.
The phone is made for humans, and humans should do final acceptance testing.
